| Registration is open for the 4th annual Dundalk Pondskipper 5K run. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, at Stansbury Park. The race begins at 9 a.m., preceded by a “fun run” for children 10 and under beginning at 8 a.m. Since its inception, the Pondskipper has served as a fundraiser for a different group or organization each year. This year’s race will benefit Dundalk Middle School. All proceeds from the race will go to the school to support its enrichment and after-school programs. Dundalk Middle is a Title I school where many students and families are unable to fully engage in their education because of a lack of resources. The Pondskipper 5K is sponsored by Thrive Baltimore, a community-based organization dedicated to serving children and families in the Baltimore area. Thrive Baltimore’s priorities are helping strengthen families in the Dundalk community. The fee to enter the Pondskipper 5K is $30. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race, and payment must be in cash. Children under the age of 10 may enter for free. To register for the race, download the form at www.thrivebaltimore.net/events/5k/ and bring it to the event on the day of the race. Runners will receive a “goodie” bag and a race t-shirt. Water stations are provided on the race course, and there will be post-race refreshments available. The first male and female finishers will receive trophies. Awards will also be presented to the top three male and female finishers in these age groups: under-20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and over-50. The race begins at the entrance to Stanbury Park, goes down Stansbury Road, follows along Wareham, Kirkleigh, Stanhope and Moorgate roads to Merritt Boulevard, follows Tilden, Searles and Church roads to Wise Avenue, then loops back along Church Road, to Denbury Drive, and back along Kirkleigh to Stansbury Road. The course then enters Stansbury Park and loops around Stanbury Pond before reaching the finish line. |
