    Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts student Alison McGuire is a runner-up for the 2013 Maryland National Center for Women & Information Technology Award for Aspirations in Computing. The award recognizes Maryland high school women for their computer-related interests and achievements.

    Students and staff at Battle Monument School will present a unique stage adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid, using augmentative communication devices, musical instruments and their own voices, Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the school, 7801 E.     Sean McComb, English teacher and AVID coordinator at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, is one of six finalists for 2013-2014 Baltimore County Teacher of the Year Award. Finalists were chosen from 115 nominees. The winner will be announced Monday, May 6, during a ceremony at George Washington Carver Center for the Arts and Technology, 938 York Road, at 4:30 p.m.

    Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts was among the 13 Baltimore County public high schools named as top schools in the National High School Challenge Project. The list is compiled annually by The Washington Post and ranks the nation’s most challenging high schools for academic rigor.

    Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts will hold its first Middle School Theatre Festival, Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school. International Thespian Society students will teach the following free workshops to students in grade 6 to 8: musical theatre, improvisation, audition techniques, Shakespeare, lighting, make-up and puppet creation. Participating students are invited to stay after the workshops to see the school’s senior class production of These Shining Lives at 2 p.m. for a discounted price of $3.     Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts will present the senior class play, These Shining Lives, Thursday and Friday, April 25 and 26, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre at the school. The play follows the tribulations of a group of women contaminated by radium from their work at the Radium Dial Company in the 1920s. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
