Requred safe boating course set for Aug. 1 and 8

    A Maryland Safe Boaters course sponsored by the North Point-Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department is being offered Thursdays, Aug. 1 and 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the station hall, 7500 North Point Road.
    This state-approved course is required by law for all boat operators born after July 1, 1972. Participants must attend both classes to pass. However, the course is open to all boaters, regardless of age, and attendance is encouraged.
    Topics covered include aids to navigation, navigation rules, boat design and nomenclature, legal requirements and using emergency equipment.
    The cost is $35 per person and seating is limited. Advance registration is required; call 410-228-8639 to register.
