The Citizens Guide to Bay Restoration produced by the Maryland Department of Planning is now available as a free download at
The guide offers strategies for residents, developers and farmers for reducing nitrogen and phosphorous runoff, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has identified as major contaminants in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Steps outlined in the guide to restore the bay’s health include reducing lawn fertilizers, installing permeable pavers, planting rain gardens and reducing driving. Adoption of these and other bay-friendly practices by county residents will help Maryland comply with EPA-mandated limits on runoff pollution.
