Police describe possible murder-suicide attempt

by Ben Boehl

Baltimore City Police are still looking for a motive in the death of a two-year-old boy on Sunday.
City police Det. Vernon Davis said that police were called to a home in the 1400 block of Broening Highway around noon and  found the boy dead with multiple stab wounds to his body.
The boy’s 32-year-old mother was found at the scene alive with a laceration to her throat.

Davis said police believe the mother attempted suicide after the boy was killed. No charges had been filed as of press time, but the mother is listed by police as a person of interest.
“It is a possibility that the mother killed the child, but we won’t charge her until she is released [from the hospital],” Davis said.
Sergeant Anthony Smith   reported that the mother is at an area hospital in critical but stable condition.
“The motive is unknown at this time and she has what is believed to be a self-inflected laceration to her neck,” Smith said.
Police reported that the mother has a history of mental illness. The woman won’t be identified until she is charged.
