Olszewski is stepping down

After serving for four terms as a member of the Baltimore County Council, Councilman John Olszewski, Sr. told supporters on Saturday that will not be seeking reelection in 2014. According to sources present at a closed-door campaign event, Olszewski made the announcement to about 200 supporters. The event was not open to members of the press.
Olszewski said he would focus his efforts on campaign for his son, Del. John Olszewski, Jr., who is running for state Senate, and for Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who is seeking to become the next governor of Maryland. Olszewski was recently named as one of three Baltimore County co-chairs for the Brown campaign.
With the 7th District council seat now open, the front runners appear to be Republican Todd Crandell and Democrat Joe DiCara, the only two candidates to fileĀ  before Olszewski made his announcement. Both officially filed last week, but Crandell announced he was seeking the council seat in July.
