Shooting is county’s first homicide of 2014

An argument between a father and son led to the first homicide of 2014 in Baltimore County last week.
    Richard J. Washington, 18, allegedly shot and killed his father, Richard A. Washington last Thursday.
    The victim was 52. Both father and son lived in the 2000 block of Paulette Road.
    According to a police report, the father and son were involved in an argument on Thursday shortly before 1 p.m.
    The son allegedly shot his father several times with a large-caliber handgun.
    Baltimore County police and fire personnel responded to the apartment at 1:03 p.m. for a report of a shooting.
    The elder Washington was found suffering from gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
    The younger Washington was taken into custody at the scene.
    Richard J. Washington has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
    There were 13 homicides in Baltimore County in 2013, down from 23 in 2012 and 30 in 2011.
    The first reported homicide in Baltimore County in 2013 took place on February 5.
    There was one homicide in Dundalk in 2013. James Burnham of Kavanagh Road shot and killed his wife, then fatally shot himself, on Aug. 24.
