Though your March Madness bracket may be in tatters by now, Dundalk is still alive and well in Fox 45’s 2013 “Burger Bracket” contest.
Running since the beginning of March, the contest pits local burger joints against one another to determine which restaurant makes Baltimore’s best hamburger.
What began with 16 Baltimore area taverns and restaurants now features just two.
After three rounds of voting, and some stiff competition, Donna’s Tavern and Restaurant on Pine Avenue has made it to the final round.

Donna’s is facing off against Dempsey’s Brew Pub and Restaurant  at Camden Yards for the title of Baltimore’s Best Burger.
Results are based on voting at the Fox 45 Burger Bracket website at
Donna’s beat Towson’s Charles Village Pub and Patio in the first round before going on to best the Poncabird Pub in the contest’s second round.
The third round ended with Donna’s gaining more votes than Hunt Valley’s The Greene Turtle to go to the final round.
According to Heather Sekora, daughter of owner Donna Sekora, this is the restaurant’s first year in the contest.
As she explained to The Eagle on Monday, Donna’s was invited to be a part of the contest by representatives for Fox 45.
In deciding which of their burgers to enter in the Burger Bracket, Donna’s staff knew that it had to reflect local tastes.
They decided to enter the restaurant’s Crabby Patty burger — a half-pound hamburger topped with Maryland crab dip atop a toasted sesame seed bun.
According to Sekora, the Crabby Patty was chosen because “it’s our most creative burger and definitely symbolizes Baltimore.”
Now that the Crabby Patty has propelled Donna’s so far, the local restaurant faces tough competition with Camden Yards-based Dempsey’s Brew Pub.
“We are honored to compete against Dempseys Brew Pub of Oriole Park,”  Donna’s Tavern staff wrote in an e-mail on Monday, adding, “With opening day this Friday, the final round will not be an easy one to win.”
Though the competition has been tough, pitting Donna’s against larger restaurants such as The Greene Turtle, Sekora credits Donna’s patrons with the restaurant’s success in the Burger Bracket.
“We just want to thank all of our loyal customers for advancing Donna’s Tavern so far,” she noted.
Voting in the final round of Fox 45’s Burger Bracket contest ends on Sunday, April 7, at 11:59 p.m.
The winner will be announced on Fox 45’s Facebook page,, on Monday, April 8.
The winning establishment will earn bragging rights and will be featured on Fox 45 News.
