Fire struck a housing construction site in the 2600 block of Yorkway on Thursday afternoon. Fire crews reportedly had the fire quickly under control. Nearby streets were closed while the area was secured.

A witness said that after the explosion, the second floor of the building collapsed into the first floor. She observed smoke coming from the building's garage.

A tank in front of the house, apparently storing flammable gas, was undamaged.

An Eagle reporter on the scene described severe damage to the building, with debris apparently flung as far as 100 feet from the site of the explosion.
