The Eastern Baltimore County Over-40 Baseball League managed to sneak in the opening round of its postseason tournament on Sunday, presumably while nature was distracted by Monday’s eclipse.
In the National Division, the Diamondbacks edged the Brewers 15-14 to set up a meeting with the top-seeded Dodgers on Sunday at the American Legion Post 38 field.
The two-time defending league champion Pirates defeated the Cubs 12-3 to advance to the division finals. They will play the winner of the Dodgers-Diamondbacks game on Sept. 3.
In the American Division, the Royals beat the Orioles 8-3 and will face the top-seeded Rays on Sunday at St. Helena Park.
The Astros knocked off the Athletics 9-4, and will play the Rays-Royals winner on Sept. 3 in the division finals.
The championship game is scheduled for Sept. 10.
The Dundalk Seniors stayed alive in the loser’s bracket of the Baltimore Beltway Senior Softball League Division A tournament with a pair of wins on Monday.
Dundalk, which entered the postseason tourney with a 15-21 record, defeated Harford County 12-11 in its first game on Monday, then downed Glen Burnie 15-4.
Dundalk was to face either Howard County or the Howard Shockers in the loser’s bracket final on Wednesday. A win sends Dundalk to the championship round, where it will need to beat either Howard County or the Howard Shockers twice.
