One woman is in critical condition and three others reported injuries after a fire on the fourth floor of an Edgemere senior living apartment complex Wednesday morning.
The blaze at St. Luke's Place, off of Lodge Farm Road in Edgemere, was mostly confined to one apartment room, Bureau Fire Chief Tim Rostkowski said at the neighboring church, St. Luke's, where some met with their family members who had been displaced by the incident.
The 911 caller, a woman who lived in the apartment which caught fire, is in the hospital in critical condition due to burns and smoke inhalation. Three others were transported to hospitals, but their injuries were non-life threatening.
Rostkowski said those injuries were "mostly medically related things," which were "pretty much unrelated to the actual fire."
The fire began around 10:30 a.m. this morning, and remained mostly within the fourth floor apartment room. The cause is unknown, but doesn't appear suspicious.
A few hours after the fire was reported, Rostkowski said the main concern was water damage.
"We have about 100 residents that were totally or completely displaced, we don't know how long that's gonna be or if that's permanent," Rostkowski said. He said some residents were allowed to go in, and the Red Cross was assisting people on scene.
