A string of violent crimes and multiple police standoffs happened throughout Dundalk over the course of the last week.
Dundalk had three shootings, resulting in one gunshot victim, one robbery, a police raid and a barricade situation in one of most violent weeks to start off the year.
Baltimore County officers had responded to shooting that occurred at Veterans Park off of Shipping Place on Monday, Jan. 16, where they had located a male victim in his 30s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
“Someone said there’s been a shooting — one person injured,” a dispatcher communicated to nearby officers.
Baltimore County police would later dispatch aviation and K-9 units to survey nearby areas in order to find suspects responsible for the shooting, who fled the scene of the crime.
As investigators stayed at Veterans Park late into Monday night, the victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It would only take detectives a day later to announce that they had made an arrest in the shooting. The arrest was announced shortly after police raided an apartment complex at 2924 Liberty Parkway.
Police entered the Liberty Parkway apartment complex around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, where witnesses recorded multiple videos of SWAT officers tossing flash-bang grenades inside the building.
Bobbie Evans, a witness to the police raid, said she was on her way to the bank when she saw “several undercover police cars” and an “armored SWAT vehicle” pull in directly in front of her.
“I quickly realized that the SWAT vehicle in front of me was unloading officers and I began filming,” Evans said. “There was heightened feel for what may come.”
According to Evans, officers were shouting commands to the people inside through a loud speaker to exit the apartment, as they sent a little robotic convoy to wheel to the front door.
With their guns drawn and pointed at 2924 Liberty Parkway, traffic was held to a standstill as the police raid lasted minutes before a man and a woman came outside with their hands up.
“Both were taken to the side of the home until police had went inside and searched,” Evans said. “I’m so glad this situation ended peacefully.”
Baltimore County police did not confirm if Tuesday’s raid had anything to do with the arrested suspect in relation to the Veterans Park shooting.
Two more shootings also occurred throughout Old Dundalk last week, although no gunshot victims were located.
One shooting took place this past Sunday on the 100 block of Patapsco Avenue, where officers responded around 6:45 p.m.
According to police dispatchers, two suspects fled the scene of the crime into St. Helena. Police found nine shell casings on Patapsco Avenue.
Another shooting occurred on the 3200 block of McShane Way in Old Dundalk before 9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, where police officers found between nine and 11 shell casings, according to a local police scanner.
Police suspect a vehicle related to the shooting was last seen in the area, where Baltimore County police sent an aviation unit to inspect.
Last Saturday, officers responded to a scene of a robbery at the High’s at 6801 Broening Road in Old Dundalk after a male suspect had held up the storefront.
According to Baltimore County police, Dundalk finished last year with approximately 1,436 violent crime cases and 2,064 offenses. Those numbers almost align with 2021 crime totals that tallied approximately 1,458 violent crime cases and 2,124 offenses.
