Defenders Day is coming up!

September 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mark your calendar for the annual Fort Howard Defenders Day Event! There will be re-enactors, games, food, etc. Come join us and celebrate the Battle that saved the nation during 1814. Open to the public. Sponsored by the Dundalk-Patapsco Neck Historical Society.

• The Living with Grace Fund is seeking single women between the ages of 55 and 60 who live in the Dundalk area for at least 3 years to assist with eye glasses and dental needs. • Friday, September 6:

At 10 a.m., the 5th Annual Paws at the Point golf tournament to benefit Baltimore Animal Rescue Center (BARCs) will be held at Sparrows Point Country Club. The cost to play the scramble format tournament is $150 per person. It includes golf, boxed lunch, alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks all day and a buffet style dinner after golf. There will be several giveaways and a silent auction of different items. All of the tournament proceeds go directly to BARCs and all donations are tax deductible. There will also be several animals at the tournament to adopt as well. It is a great venue to play golf and raise money for an even better cause.

Cory Grossman, a SPCC member and Bear Creek native, established this tournament with his wife Stephanie, after adopting their dog, Lola, from BARCs. The tournament has raised over $60,000 the past four years.

Cory is currently looking for sponsors and players for the upcoming tournament. If you wish to play, be a sponsor or just donate to give back to the over 11,000 homeless animals each year, please contact Cory at pawsatthepoint@gmail.com.

• Tuesday, October 1:

Are you interested in joining the Boy Scouts? On Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m., all boys between the ages of 11 and 17 and their parents who are interested in joining Boy Scout Troop 745 are invited to a special presentation on the Battle of North Point by Boy Scout Troop 745 at the Essex Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 524 Maryland Avenue off Woodward Drive in Essex.

Costume re-enactors will discuss the history, tactics, weapons and the role of civilians during this important battle in Baltimore County. This interactive program has information and knowledge on local history potential Scouts will not learn in school. It can be applied to some of the requirements for certain merit badges. Boys who join Troop 745 have an opportunity to camp at Todd’s Inheritance and many other fun activities, including an active camping program. The Troop was founded in 1952 and has a long and proud history of almost 100 Eagle Scouts.
