Defenders Day is coming up!

The Baltimore County Geneological Society will meet on Sunday, September 22 and at 3 p.m. and will feature guest speaker, Shannon Combs-Bennett, QG. Her presentation, Using DNA Results with Family History Research, will cover how to develop a research plan and how to combine traditional genealogy research with your DNA results for greater success with research. While a basic understanding of DNA testing is not needed for this presentation, it is helpful as only a brief explanation of the tests will be covered.

By the end of the talk you will know which test to take for a genealogical question, how to write and follow a research plan which includes DNA testing and pit falls to watch out for during research.

• Tuesday, October 1:

Are you interested in joining the Boy Scouts? On Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m., all boys between the ages of 11 and 17 and their parents who are interested in joining Boy Scout Troop 745 are invited to a special presentation on the Battle of North Point by Boy Scout Troop 745 at the Essex Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 524 Maryland Avenue off Woodward Drive in Essex.

Costume re-enactors will discuss the history, tactics, weapons and the role of civilians during this important battle in Baltimore County. This interactive program has information and knowledge on local history potential Scouts will not learn in school. It can be applied to some of the requirements for certain merit badges. Boys who join Troop 745 have an opportunity to camp at Todd’s Inheritance and many other fun activities, including an active camping program. The Troop was founded in 1952 and has a long and proud history of almost 100 Eagle Scouts.
