Learn about democracy at CCBC

The Community College of Baltimore County is hosting an adaptation of the Smithsonian’s “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” exhibition at The Gallery at CCBC Dundalk, College Community Center, 7200 Sollers Point Road until Jan. 22, and the college is reopening its gallery on Jan. 2.

Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, and CCBC was one of five selected by Maryland Humanities to host it.

This Museum on Main Street adaptation of the exhibition will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia and protest material.

Tuesday, Jan. 4

Learn budget and credit skills

In this virtual event on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m., Dundalk Renaissance’s financial counselor, Sonya Dease, will help you navigate the basics of building a budget and understanding your credit. This is the first step you need to take to get a better understanding of how to better manage your money and your credit, and why it’s so important.

Delegate’s town hall canceled

With the rise of COVID cases throughout the region, Delegate Bob Long has decided to cancel his pre-session town hall at the North Point Library, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Friday, Jan. 7

Submit photos, bumper sticker slogans to DRC

The deadline to submit to Dundalk Renaissance’s annual photo contest and bumper sticker slogan contest is Friday, Jan. 7!

For the photo contest, DRC is seeking high-resolution photos from photographers of all skill levels showing their Dundalk pride. Winners will have their work displayed in The Forge at 11 Center Pl, and win a prize. Email photos to Multiple submissions are allowed, but please send one photo per email.

And for the sticker contest, DRC is seeking slogans for new Dundalk-centric bumper stickers to be unveiled in time for “Dundalk Day,” Feb. 12, 2022 (also written as 2/12/22, which is most of Dundalk’s zip code.) Send slogan suggestions, or a design mock up to by Jan. 7.

Friday, Jan. 21

Charity hosting Bingo fundraiser

Local nonprofit One Day at a Time will be hosting a fundraiser at the Dundalk Optimist Club, 4528 North Point Blvd in Sparrows Point, on Friday, Jan 21.

ODAT, which specializes in helping less fortunate children in local communities, will be selling tickets for $25 and will be $30 at the door. First come, first serve. No refunds. Each ticket includes one admission, bundle of bingo cards, and a dauber!
