Get a free rapid COVID-19 test at libraries

The county’s health department will be distributing free at-home rapid COVID-19 tests on Saturday, Jan. 15, from 9 a.m. until they run out, at the Baltimore County Public Library North Point and Sollers Point branches. The North Point branch is located at 1716 Merritt Boulevard, and the Sollers Point branch is located at 323 Sollers Point Road.

Give input on schools budget

The Baltimore County Board of Education will be holding a public hearing on the superintendent’s proposed operating budget for fiscal 2023.

The public hearing will be held virtually on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Registration to participate in public comment will be through an online registration form, which opened on Tuesday and will close at 3 p.m. on the day before the hearing, Monday, Jan. 17. Comments are limited to three minutes per speaker. No speaker substitutions are allowed.

Learn about buying a home

Dundalk Renaissance will be holding an online “Be a Buyer” workshop on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Learn everything you need to know as you embark on your homeownership journey. The class meets the Be a Buyer Workshop requirement for DRC’s $5,000 Dundalk-wide Home Buyer grant.

Charity hosting Bingo fundraiser

Local nonprofit One Day at a Time will be hosting a fundraiser at the Dundalk Optimist Club, 4528 North Point Blvd in Sparrows Point, on Friday, Jan 21.

ODAT, which specializes in helping less fortunate children in local communities, will be selling tickets for $25 and will be $30 at the door. First come, first serve. No refunds. Each ticket includes one admission, bundle of bingo cards, and a dauber!

Learn about civil rights at Sparrows Point

The Baltimore County Public Library and the Baltimore Museum of Industry will be holding a virtual discussion about the fight for civil rights at Bethlehem Steel’s mill in Sparrows Point on Saturday, Jan. 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The discussion is based on the podcast Sparrows Point: an American Steel Story, and is part of the Smithsonian traveling exhibition Voices & Votes: Democracy in America tour of Baltimore County.

Dundalk Renaissance will be holding a virtual workship on the basics of money management and credit restoration on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.

Bull and shrimp feast benefits Pointers

Enjoy food and drinks, entertainment, auctions, raffles and much more while benefitting the Sparrows Point High School Class of 2023 on Friday, Feb. 4 from 7 to 11 p.m.

The bull and shrimp feast to benefit the junior Pointers will be held at Superior Catering by M&M and Sons at the old United Autoworkers Hall, 1010 Oldham St., Baltimore, MD 21224.
