DUNDALK — A Dundalk man who coached little league in Arbutus was committed to the county jail last week following his arrest on sex offense and rape charges alleging he sexually abused an 8-year-old boy from the league.
Melvin Joseph Tucker, 33, who was known as “Coach Joe” in the Arbutus Recreation League, is charged with six felony offenses stemming from the incident with the boy, as well as separate incidents with a girl which allegedly happened about 15 years ago, when Tucker was about 19.
The 8-year-old boy told police of an incident where he had stayed the night on an air mattress at Tucker’s residence off Cornwall Road in Dundalk in 2019, when Tucker was about 30 or 31, charging papers say.
Charging papers say detectives were alerted to that incident, with the boy, while they were were investigating incidents with the girl, who was either 12 or 13 at the times of the alleged incidents involving her.
She said Tucker had been in her house often during that time period, and alleged numerous sexual assaults, charging papers say. Family members told police she had told them about the incidents, and also detailed Tucker’s “long time addiction to child pornography” and alleged sexual assaults which happened in other jurisdictions when he was a juvenile.
Representatives from the Arbutus little league division did not respond to requests for comment.
Detectives still “have reason to believe there are other children Tucker may have targeted and sexually abused,” Baltimore County Police said in a press release last week.
