DUNDALK — Earlier this year, we reported on the kindness of the children and educators at General John Stricker Middles School in Dundalk, and now the kindness champions are putting their prize money to good use.

Out of more than 1,000 schools that took part in the 2019 Middle School Kindness Challenge, the local middle school was named the overall Kindness Champions.

Recently, Stricker students used their $5,000 award to work with Genesee Valley to "continue engaging students in activities to reach goals and overcome challenges," school officials said.

They performed several team-building initiatives to small groups of students throughout the week, and Stricker students worked with Genesee Valley staff on "developing communication, cooperation, empathy, goal setting and leadership skills."

Students were encouraged to reflect on the lessons they learned through the various activities, and shared what they had taken from the events. School officials said the goal of the week was for students to transfer what they learned throughout the weeklong program and connect it to their everyday life at school and in their community.

General John Stricker Middle continues to work hard to meet the needs of students – one act of kindness at a time!
