ROSEDALE — Officials confirmed that Kareem Omar Morgan, 43, of Dundalk, has died after gunshots were exchanged with Baltimore County police in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, July 6 at Duke’s Motel in Rosedale.
The stand-off began on the western side of Baltimore County before ending in deadly gunfire in Rosedale. Officials said that officers were called to the 1700 block of Winding Brook Way in Windsor Mill at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday for the reported shooting of a 37-year-old woman.
Morgan was reportedly the woman’s ex-boyfriend, and he forced his way into the house, officials said. After the forced entry, there was a physical altercation. It was then the woman was shot in the lower body.
Police department officials told local media that the suspect then fled the scene, and information was developed that pinpointed the suspect as possibly being located at Duke’s Motel in Rosedale, on the 7900 block of Pulaski Highway.
After securing search and arrest warrants in relation to the shooting in Windsor Mill, officials said they began to execute those warrants for Morgan at the motel. Officers secured the motel itself, then descended on the room where they believed Morgan was in hiding. Officials said the suspect was the only occupant of the Rosedale motel room at the time they executed their warrants. A gun was reportedly recovered among the contents of the room.
“Our tactical officers became engaged in an exchange of gunfire at the room where we believed that that suspect was located,” said Baltimore County Police Department’s public information officer Jennifer Peach to local media at the scene. “During that exchange, the suspect inside was killed.”
No officers or anyone else were injured, police said.
Morgan was pronounced deceased at the scene.
