SPARROWS POINT — One of the oldest saloons in Baltimore County will be sold at auction later this month. Pop’s Tavern, an infamous local bar at North Point Boulevard and Wise Avenue opened in 1928.
The auction will be held at the tavern itself, as well as online, beginning May 28 at 1 p.m.
“The business was established in 1928 and has had the same owner since 1985,” Alex Cooper auction company said last week. “Successful transfer of the liquor license to the new buyer is subject to the approval of the Baltimore County Liquor Board and is not a condition for settlement.”
The longtime owner and manager decided to sell the haunt two years ago, and it has been listed for sale for sometime. She said it is the oldest bar in Baltimore County, and she hopes it will stay open as a bar.
For more than 90 years, Pop’s Tavern has hosted country music bands and been a gathering place for adults. The building has three apartments on the second floor, but Pop’s Tavern takes up the first floor.
The listing calls it a “turnkey tavern and restaurant with off premise liquor license or ‘potential redevelopment opportunity’.”
