A Dundalk woman was brutally stabbed on Gray Place last week as the result of a senseless act of domestic violence.
Bobby Lee Pittman, Jr. was taken into custody by Baltimore County police officers near midnight on March 23. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, and first- and second-degree assault. Pittman was arrested for viciously attacking his spouse, Shemicia Lewis-Pittman, with a knife. The two were at Pittman’s mother’s address on the 1600 block of Gray Place.
According to court documents, officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 11:32 p.m. on March 23. When they arrived, they found Lewis-Pittman lying on the ground outside the home, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers applied first aid while she advised them she had been stabbed by Pittman, according to court documents. Pittman escaped through a rear entrance of the home. Lewis-Pittman was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
According to court documents, officers began searching alleyways to locate Pittman. They eventually found him, hiding behind a vehicle parked in an alley down the street. When officers found Pittman, blood was visible on his hands, arms and clothes.
According to court documents, Edward Shipley, Pittman’s stepfather, told investigating detectives that he attempted to intervene when the incident began, telling investigators that he had tried to hold Pittman back. Court documents said that Pittman broke free and charged at his wife. Shipley described Pittman on top of Lewis-Pittman as he was assaulting her, according to court documents.
Investigators also interviewed two other witnesses who live across the street from the home. They told investigators that they saw Pittman on top of Lewis-Pittman and ran over to help her. When they arrived, they observed Pittman holding a knife. The two witnesses, who are not being named for their own protection, also told investigators that Lewis-Pittman laid motionless on the ground while Pittman continued to stab her.
According to court documents, Lewis-Pittman was stabbed upwards of 20 times.
Pittman is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. His trial date is pending.
