A rootin’-tootin’ fundraiser for the local nonprofit Santa’s Helpers raised more than a fistful of dollars to get kids presents on Christmas morning.

The “Country Christmas”-themed fundraiser at the United Autoworkers Hall on Saturday night raised cash for Santa’s Helpers, a nonprofit which distributes presents to families in need.

Dawn Frazier, the president of the nonprofit, said the group gave out gifts to about 400 children last year. They'll be running distribution out of the American Legion Post 38, which presented the nonprofit with over $2,000 last week, on Dec. 5.

Guests at last week's fundraiser raised money for the group through tickets, raffles, giveaways and a silent auction.

A table-decorating contest encouraged attendees to ornament their seats with a country Christmas theme, and it was no match for Tami and Neil Roloff, who rolled in a life-sized John Wayne cutout alongside a western display.
