Fleming to open up new fitness center

Fleming Senior Center attendees will soon have a fresh place to work out, after the center officially cuts the ribbon its fitness studio this Friday.

“This is the first in the community,” Fleming Senior Center Director Cynthia Mingo said in the new fitness center on Tuesday. She said the senior center’s council has been pushing for a fitness studio, which has been in the works for a while now.

The fitness center is equipped with a set of dumbbells, cardio equipment and multiple weight machines. A wellness trainer will come in every other Friday to show senior center members how to use the equipment.

“Exercise is the key now” in senior recreation, Mingo said, adding that the fitness center will help the senior center open up to a broader range of exercise activities.

The fitness studio will be open to those ages 50 and up during the senior center’s regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the senior center at 9 a.m. on Friday.

To get started at the fitness center, register and become a member at the senior center and schedule an orientation with the fitness monitor.
