CHESAPEAKE CITY — The VFW #2678 Auxiliary President Linda Henderson and Past Presidents Cathy Gistedt and Nancy Lee August traveled to Chesapeake City VFW #7687 to meet Peggy Haake, the National President of the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United Sates (VFW).

Haake was on her official visit to the state of Maryland.

“She was a wonderful lady,” Gistedt said of their meeting.

On Monday night, the statewide VFW Auxiliary ladies held a dinner to “honor our national president,” said Gistedt.

President Haake, a native of Hawaii, encouraged all auxiliaries to “serve our veterans with aloha spirit.” Haake’s husband served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1970-1971. Maryland Auxiliary President Cynthia Davis presented Peggy with many gifts in memory of her visit to the great state, including socks decorated like the Maryland flag.
