Throughout the impeachment process, Republicans have constantly been stating ever since the 2016 election that the Democrats have been trying to impeach the president.
The impeachment attitude actually begin in 2009. Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election. Immediately after the election, the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, stated that from this point on, the goal of the Republican Party was to make Obama a one-term president.
Then, came the Tea Party Movement. As a result, Republicans won both the Senate and the House. They blocked everything Obama and the Democrats wanted to pass.
Then, Obama simply bypassed Congress and did everything through executive order. Which was, probably, an abuse of power. But the Republicans did nothing to stop him.
Trump won the 2016 election under suspicious circumstances. The Senate is now controlled by Trump Republicans, and the House is controlled by Democrats. Hence, the impeachment process.
The sad part is our government is dysfunctional, and in peril. The only thing that will save our democratically-elected, republican form of government is “We the People,” the electorate.
The 2020 election will be the most important election of the 21st century.
