Happy Thursday, Dundalk!
I’m the new blood at the Dundalk Eagle and Avenue News office, back up north from a six-year stint in Southern Maryland, where I went to college for four years and worked for Southern Maryland News for the other two. Before my time there, I grew up in nearby Anne Arundel. It’s good to be back.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll probably see me all around Dundalk and Essex. Look for the mustached guy who’s asking too many questions and getting lost.
I spent a little bitof time in Dundalk a few summers ago, when I was working with the Maryland Transit Administration. We had to go on a few trips to the Geresbeck's in Logan Village as it was closing down to disconnect bus pass equipment. A far cry from reporting the news, but things have changed since then.
While in Southern Maryland, I covered all the crime, courts, chaos and county government in St. Mary’s County, perched up from a little house in a historic little town called Leonardtown. I’m looking forward to getting integrated into Southeast Baltimore County and doing the same here.
See, my favorite type of stories I wrote down there were history stories. And it seems like I came to the right place at the right time. I’m looking forward to spending this weekend at the Heritage Fair and Independence Day parade. Might even put on the Eagle mascot head and overheat myself, if you’re lucky.
You’ll also be able to spot me if you see a guy lugging around two big camera bags. I shoot photos for work and for fun, and a kind gentleman recently gifted me 24 rolls of film to use up. Those are for my ‘fun’ pictures.
My main mission during these first few weeks is to learn as much as I can about the area. If you’re interested in giving me a tour or showing off something you care about here, feel free to drop me a line on my Twitter at @DanBelson_, or at my fancy new email, email@example.com. Or, swing by the Dundalk Eagle office. I’d be happy to meet with you.
