After an extended period of time off due to the coronavirus pandemic canceling last spring sports season, the Dundalk High track & field teams hosted their first home track meet in more than two years, on May 7.
The boys and girls teams swept the meet. The boys squad brought home the team win with a total score of 82 points, defeating Kenwood with 28 points, Chesapeake (26.5) and Lansdowne (24.5).
The Owls scored 51 points through the strength of their field events, with wins in the shot put from Chimdy Onoh, discus by Dale Martin, high jump and long jump by Peter Dent and Isiah Tancemore and triple jump by Qaiyon Prioleau.
Prioleau’s performance of 44 feet, one-half inch in the triple jump currently ranks him fourth in the state of Maryland, while Chimdy’s throw of 41 feet, two inches in the shot put currently puts him eighth best in the state.
Dundalk’s boys also faired well on the track, as they brought home wins in the 100m and 200m from Dallion Smith, 400m by Peter Dent, 4x100m relay, and 4x200m relay with Qyrese Williams, Lemuel Onoh, Javier Vincent and Smith.
On the girls side, the Owls also earned a team win. Freshman Briana King led the way, winning the 100m and 200m. Julia Beatty brought home the win in the 800m, while Maya Medina swept the throws with wins in the shot put and discus.
The Owls will compete again this Friday at Patapsco, at a quad meet along with Milford Mill and Chesapeake.
