DUNDALK — “You can’t make this stuff up,” Owl coach Steve Oppenheim said.

The Dundalk High School boys basketball team has suffered six losses by only 22 points total.

Dundalk lost at Milford Mill on Friday, 69-65, to drop its record to 8-6.

The Owls have lost one game by five points, one game by two points and four games by four points.

Two of the four-point losses were in overtime.

The narrow two-point loss was at Franklin (12-4) — the Indians will likely play in the Baltimore County championship game.

One of the overtime losses was at Parkville (13-3), which is the team currently leading the Class 3A North Region Section I standings.

Dundalk is still in second place in Class 3A North Region II, but now trails first-place C. Milton Wright (13-3) by four games. The team that finishes first in the section will have home-court advantage throughout the sectional tournament.

While Milford Mill is the defending regional champion, the Millers (7-9) have a losing record this season.

Dundalk had a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter, 44-43 and extended its lead to five points in the opening minutes of the quarter.

The Owls made 15 field goals and nine three-pointers to 16 field goals and eight three-pointers for the Millers.

Milford Mill won the game with a better performance at the foul line. The Millers made 13-of-17 free throws, the Owls made 8-of-16.

Jaylon Johnson scored 22 points for the Owls and Michael Johnson scored 20. No other Dundalk player scored more than seven points; Rayonte Brown scored seven before missing most of the fourth quarter with an injured ankle.

Thursday, Dundalk won at Sparrows Point 79-39.

The Owls jumped out to a 15-3 lead over the overmatched Pointers and led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and 36-15 midway through the second quarter.

The Pointers battled gamely, but the Owls were quicker and had a decided height advantage. Sparrows Point’s tallest player is 6 feet tall.

Michael Johnson was hurt in the first half and sat out the rest of the game after scoring nine points. Jaylon Johnson scored 23 points, Brown scored 12 points and Tremayne Martin scored 11.

Peyton Conn led Sparrows Point with 12 points. Mike Anderson scored nine points.

The Pointers lost at Owings Mills on Friday 75-51 to drop their record to 2-12.

Christian Wilson led the Patriots with 28 points.

Patapsco played at Dulaney on Friday and lost 111-36. The Lions still had their starting lineup in the game with a 100-26 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Weather permitting, Dundalk was to play at Perry Hall on Wednesday, host Woodlawn on Friday and host Towson on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Towson game was originally scheduled for Monday but was postponed because of inclement weather and snow.

The Owls’ last five games are all at home.

The Regional playoffs begin March 1.

Patapsco was to play at Kenwood on Wednesday, then host Severna Park on Thursday and Lansdowne on Friday.

Sparrows Point was to play at Eastern Tech on Wednesday and host Chesapeake on Friday.
